Spotlight: Science in Everyday Life — Science Is Everywhere!

Introduction

Have you ever stopped to think about how much science is happening around you—every single day? It’s true! Science isn’t just something that happens in a lab or a classroom. It’s in your kitchen when you bake bread, in your backyard when you watch birds, and even in the way you move, sleep, and play.

That’s why I grounded all of my books in real scientific principles. I want families to see that science is woven into language, math, health, P.E., and The Arts. When we explore scientific ideas through movement, creativity, and everyday routines, learning becomes natural and meaningful—just like it is in the real world.

Why This Matters

Traditional education often separates subjects—science in one box, math in another, art somewhere else. But in real life, everything is connected. When you cook dinner, you’re using chemistry and math. When your child builds a pillow fort, they’re exploring engineering and physics. Even cleaning up the kitchen involves biology (think about bacteria and soap!) and sometimes a little teamwork.

My Approach: Integrated, Real-World Learning

In my books, every lesson is designed to help your child:

  • Notice science in daily life—at home, at the park, or even at the grocery store.
  • Use math, language, and creative expression to make sense of the world.
  • Connect health, movement, and science for a whole-child approach.
  • Express discoveries through art, music, drama, or hands-on projects.

This is how the real world works—integrated, flexible, and full of opportunities to learn!

A Simple Challenge for Parents

This week, try to notice all the ways your family uses science without even thinking about it. Ask your child questions like:

  • What’s happening when water boils on the stove?
  • Why do we need to wash our hands before we eat?
  • How does the sun help plants grow in our yard?
  • What shapes do you see in the clouds or in your breakfast cereal?

You’ll be amazed at how much science is right in front of you!

Stay Tuned

In this “Spotlight: Science in Everyday Life” series, I’ll share simple activities, conversation starters, and real-world examples to help you make the most of everyday learning moments. Science is everywhere—and together, we’ll help your child see it, question it, and love it.
